So much more than a rite of passage - Confirmation is your opportunity to accept your faith as your own. The gifts of the Holy Spirit that you receive in this sacrament aren't just a one-time thing. It marks the beginning of your life as an adult disciple of Christ, giving you the tools you need to go out into the world as a Christian adult by loving others, serving your community, and sharing the Gospel by your words and actions.
DIOCESE OF RALEIGH CONFIRMATION REQUIREMENTS
Confirmation preparation in the Diocese of Raleigh is a 2-year process. Youth at St. Michael are eligible to begin preparation in 9th grade and will receive the Sacrament in the spring of their 10th grade year. Youth may begin the process any time after 8th grade. These changes are in accordance with the recommendation of our Bishop.

YEAR ONE
Youth who attend public or non-Catholic private school will need to attend weekly catechesis classes at St. Michael to complete the Year 1 foundation in the faith requirement.
Youth who attend a Catholic high school or are homeschooled that complete one year of a theology class will fulfill the Year 1 theology foundation requirement for Confirmation. Prior to Year 2, a verification letter from the school of study will be required stating one year of theology was completed.
The following forms are required to enroll for Confirmation preparation:
- Data Form
- Sponsor Form
- Baptismal certificate (if not at St. Michael the Archangel)
Classes at St. Michael will meet on Sundays at (12:30pm – 2pm) or (3:00pm-4:30pm) September through May.
An important part of being a Catholic is being involved in your church and community. The Church as the body of Christ needs you in order to thrive!
In each year of Confirmation, students will be required to complete 8 service hours. These can be done with a parish ministry, school service projects, or most other active volunteer roles. Hours must be recorded on the Service hours form and turned in during class.
Confirmation becomes a priority only when weekly mass is prioritized. Weekly Sunday mass is a requirement for Confirmation.
Participating in the sacraments is the ultimate way of preparing for the reception of Confirmation and forming your faith as a Christian. The Sacramental portion of Confirmation preparation includes weekly Mass attendance and participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) at least once per year.
YEAR TWO
ALL high school youth (including public, private, Catholic, and homeschooled) who are entering their second year of preparation for Confirmation, will be required to attend and complete the St. Michael parish Confirmation program of weekly catechesis meetings, a parish retreat, eight community service hours, and participate in the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress on October 21, 2023.
