STM STAGG PICKS: FAVORITE BIBLE VERSES
This Sunday, January 24, is the Sunday of the Word of God, a time set aside to reflect on the importance of Sacred Scripture in our faith journey. To get you started, the St. Michael’s staff put together a list of some of their favorite verses to inspire you.
Fr. Michael Burbeck, Pastor
So many to choose from but I’d like to share the two I think of most often: Psalm 127 and Matthew 11:28-30. Both for the same reason: they remind me that all the work is God’s and not mine. When I find myself feeling labored or burdened, it’s because I am trying to do it on my own rather than letting Him do it in, through, and for me.
Cindy Linville, Accounts Payable Specialist
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Meditating on this verse has gotten me through some difficult times, especially when my husband had his stroke back in 2013.
Deacon Brian Phillips
I have MANY, but one that especially resoundates with me and hopefully with others, too is from the 46th Psalm: “Be still and know that I am God.” This quote gave me encouragement when I was in formation for the diaconate.
Deacon Dave Wulff
I actually have two. To me it is very powerful to consider that our Lord is there for us when we most need Him.
“For when I am weak, then, I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12:10 and “But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.” – 1 Timothy 3:15
Teresa Heath, Administrative Assistant to the Pastor
Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” I like this one and it has meaning for me two ways. When I have felt the weight of this world and the challenges I have faced, I turn to my faith to give me solace. The second meaning is that when I cantor, I get to sing these words and hopefully someone in the pew will be moved to find that same solace.
Tara Navarro, St. Micahael School Principal
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 This has been my favorite Scripture verse since college. It’s a recipe for life: no matter what each day brings, we are called to remain rooted in joy; keep praying so that our life of love can become a prayer; and give God thanks for every experience, moment, and opportunity to grow closer to Him!
Matt McLaughlin, St. Michael School Assistant Principal
Phillipians 4:4-9. It is a passage of such hope and optimism and peace.
Jeannine Hughes, Coordinator of Elementary Religious Education
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39
Danielle Crane, Director of Operations
“Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
Carolina Gallo, Coordinator of Hispanic Ministry
Matthew 7:7-12
Luke 1:26-38
Luke 1:39-49
James 2:14-18
1 John 4:7-9
1 John 11-13
Lisa Ciesla, Director of Preschool
Below is my favorite Bible verse which has taken on even greater meaning during these challenging times; to trust in God, and our faith will bring us joy, peace, and abounding hope.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” – Romans 15:13
Emily Ricci, Communications Coordinator
“The Lord bless you and keep you: The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
I have many favorites, but this one is particularly special because my husband’s name is Aaron, and the priest at our wedding used this prayer in his homily because it is the prayer of Aaron. We now have it hanging in our entryway as a blessing to all who enter our home.
