ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL PARTNERS WITH CATHOLIC CHARITIES

My name is Dave Wulff, and I am a Deacon here at St. Michael’s. Father Michael has asked that my wife, Linda, and I take on the role of raising funds for a new initiative here at St. Michael’s. This would be to fund a position for Catholic Charities to work right out of our Parish. Yes, the need in our community is great, and those in need struggle to be able to get to Raleigh or Durham for that help. So, we want to bring the help to our community.
We are called by our faith to the Corporal Works of Mercy: to feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty, to clothe the naked, to give shelter to travelers, to visit the sick, to visit the imprisoned, and to bury the dead.
Linda and I have been volunteering in the Nursing Home Ministry for a while now, but unfortunately cannot right now because of Covid. One of our friends that works with us in this Ministry has been keeping up with a few of the patients. Recently, she asked one of them if they needed anything, and she said yes, she could use a heavy winter coat. Our friend went and got a nice coat, but also picked her up a lighter fall coat. When she went to visit the person and gave her the coats, she was so pleased, but said no to the lighter coat because she only “needed” one coat. Our friend had a choice of many coats to wear out that day, but this person only “needed” one. WOW, what a humbling moment.
Yes, my brothers and sisters, we are very blessed in so many ways. Please take the opportunity at Christmas, where we will have a special collection to fund this position, to reach down deep and remember just how blessed we are and how much need there is in our community.
Remember, we don’t do this because of who they are. We do this because of who we are.
Thank you and God Bless.
