Life and Challenges of Fr. Augustus Tolton

November 7, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Fr. Gerard Jordan, O. Praem. will deliver the lecture.

Fr. Augustus Tolton

Please join us for this special presentation on November 7 about Fr. Augustus Tolton. Fr. Tolton was the first Black American priest in the United States. After being refused entry into any seminary in the United States because of his race, he studied for the priesthood in Rome and returned to the US, becoming ordained in 1886.

Fr. Gerard Jordan, O. Praem. will be speaking at the 5 pm Vigil and 10:30 am and 12:30 pm Masses that weekend and will offer the presentation on November 7. Fr. Jordan will share with us the canonization efforts underway for Fr. Tolton as well as what we can learn as a parish from the struggles he went through so that he could serve God as a priest.
