Our Inspiration for the High School, Honduras Device Donation Project
My name is Joey Milazzo, and I am a current parishioner and Class of 2019 alum of St. Michael’s. My high school student-led organization, Service Beakers, has launched an initiative for our brothers and sisters of the sister parish in Honduras that aims to bring new technology and other educational improvements to students in the area. Over the past year, we as students have experienced great value that lies in virtual education. Sources of learning are seemingly limitless on the internet, and as a result, laptops and the internet can create invaluable and expansive educational opportunities for the under-privileged students of Honduras.
As a group that has many St. Michael’s alumni in it, we have been inspired by the great work that our parish has already done for the Honduran community. Thus, our desire to serve led us to launch and support this mission to expand education through technology for the sister parish. Our organization’s roots are in education, and providing free education not only in our area but around the world is a very worthy mission. Overall, our goal is closely related to the goal of the sister parish mission as a whole: to use the gifts that God has given to us to support our brothers and sisters in Christ. Support of our initiative, whether by donating used laptops or by donating monetary funds, will truly help provide unparalleled educational opportunities for these Honduran students, allowing them to live out their full potential.
