CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATES (FATHER’S FAITH NOTES: JUNE 20,2021)
Last weekend, I had the joy of sharing more details regarding our planned renovations of the interior of the Church. Thank you to all of you who stopped to share your enthusiasm with me after each Mass and throughout the week – it is truly a confirmation of how exciting this new work is. More than just the excitement of celebrating the anniversary of the dedication of the Church, the improvements we are undertaking give glory to God and will help draw all who enter our Church more closely to Him. As our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has said, “Every expression of true beauty [is] a path leading to an encounter with the Lord Jesus.”
This week you will notice some small signs that the work is progressing. We had an excellent meeting with our architect, Jim O’Brien, on Tuesday to review paint colors, carpet, and other finishes. The small patches on the walls represent various options for wall and trim colors. While we painted them to look at on Tuesday, I wanted to leave them up so that you could see the direction we are considering – brighter and more neutral. As many of you will remember, while not exact, these colors are more akin to the original colors of the church. The idea is to brighten up the interior and to let the walls fade into the background so that our eyes and hearts more easily focus on the altar and sanctuary, the center of our worship. We will also be improving the overhead lighting. That will further brighten the space and make it easier to follow the readings and hymns. I know that will be a welcome help to many.

El fin de semana pasado, tuve la alegría de compartir más detalles sobre nuestras renovaciones planificadas del interior de la Iglesia. Gracias a todos los que han compartido conmigo su entusiasmo después de las misas y durante la semana; es realmente una confirmación de lo emocionante que es este nuevo trabajo. Más que la emoción de celebrar el aniversario de la dedicación de la Iglesia, las mejoras que estamos emprendiendo dan gloria a Dios y ayudarán a todos los que entran en la Iglesia a encontrar a Dios. Como ha dicho nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, “Toda expresión de verdadera belleza [es] un camino que conduce al encuentro con el Señor Jesús”.
Esta semana se darán cuenta de algunos pequeños signos de que el trabajo va avanzando poco a poco. Tuvimos una excelente reunión con nuestro arquitecto, Jim O’Brien, el martes para revisar los colores de pintura, alfombras y otros detalles. Los pequeños parches en las paredes representan varias opciones de colores para paredes y molduras. Mientras los pintamos para mirar el martes, quería dejarlos para que pudieran ver la dirección en la que estamos mirando, más brillante y neutral. Como muchos de ustedes recordarán, estos colores son más parecidos a los colores originales de la iglesia. La idea es iluminar el interior y dejar que las paredes se desvanezcan para que nuestros ojos y corazones se enfoquen más fácilmente en el altar y el santuario, el centro de nuestro culto. También estaremos mejorando las luces. Eso iluminará aún más el espacio y hará que sea más fácil seguir las lecturas o los himnos. Sé que será una ayuda bienvenida para muchos.
