2024 Music Ministry Retreat: August 22 – 24: “To Glory and Sanctify”

Open to everyone interested in sacred music!

Join the musicians of St. Michael the Archangel parish for our 3^rd Annual Music Ministry Retreat on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday August 22-24. This year’s theme is “To Glorify and Sanctify.” All who are currently involved in the music ministry, and any parishioner interested in music ministry may join us!

We’ll socialize together, sing together, and pray together. There will be new music and old favorites, rehearsing for Fall liturgies as well as testing out repertoire for Advent/Christmas, our “Evening of Remembrance,” the Epiphany Concert, and more. We’ll dig into the Church’s teaching about the two purposes of liturgical music: the glorification of God and the sanctification of the people. How can our music give MORE GLORY to God, who is glorious without measure? How can our music MAKE HOLY the people who hear it in the liturgy? Yet this is the mission of a church music program. Come sing, socialize, pray, and learn!

The schedule is as follows (attend as much as you are able):

Thursday August 22^nd, 6 to 8:30 pm (Parish Center)

• Wine and Cheese social, 6 to 7
• Music reading from 7 to 8:30 pm

Friday August 25^th, 4:30 to 7:30 pm (Parish Center)

• Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction, 4:30 to 5 pm
• Light Refreshments (sandwiches, chips) 5 to 5:30 pm
• Music, fellowship, and group prayer from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Saturday August 26^th, 2 to 4:15 pm (Parish Center), 6 to 8:00 pm (Bond Park)

• Music and liturgical discussion, 2 to 2:45 pm
• Continued music reading with opportunities for Confession, 2:45 to 4:15 pm
• 4:15 pm: part of group prepares and sings for 5 pm Mass, the other part leaves to help set up for picnic. (Other choir service at 10:30 am Sunday)
• 6 to 8:00 pm: Music Ministry picnic at Buehler Shelter at Bond Park. Burgers and hot dogs provided, others bring beverages, salad or side dish, dessert.
