WELCOME, FR. STEVEN! (FATHER’S FAITH NOTES: MAY 23, 2021)

As we shared last weekend, I am delighted to announce the addition of a new priest to our staff. On June 1st, we will welcome Fr. Steven Costello, L.C. (right) here at St. Michael’s. He will serve along with Fr. Noé and me full-time and Fr. Oji who continues with us part-time, as he also serves as chaplain to the Igbo Community in Raleigh. Fr. Steven’s specific role will be as Director of Evangelization and Catechesis. He will be full-time on our staff and in residence here with us at St. Michael’s. Along with assuming supervision of our current faith formation staff and ministries, Fr. Steven’s focus will be on developing and teaching a new, comprehensive program for adult faith formation.

Fr. Steven hails from the Space Coast of Florida. He studied music education at the University of Central Florida before joining the seminary of the Legionaries of Christ in 2000. He was ordained a priest in 2011. The following year, he began his graduate studies at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Washington, DC, where he earned both his licentiate and doctorate in Sacred Theology. Most recently, he served as chaplain and assistant professor of theology at Divine Mercy University in Sterling, VA.

We look forward to welcoming him and I know that he will be a blessing to our parish.

Como compartimos el fin de semana pasado, me complace anunciar la llegada de un nuevo sacerdote a nuestra parroquia. El 1 de junio, daremos la bienvenida al P. Steven Costello, L.C. aquí en St. Michael's. Él servirá junto con el P. Noé y yo a tiempo completo y el P. Oji, que continúa con nosotros a tiempo parcial, ya que también se desempeña como capellán de la comunidad igbo en Raleigh. El papel específico del Padre Steven será el de Director de Evangelización y Catequesis. Trabajará a tiempo completo en nuestro personal y vivirá aquí con nosotros en St. Michael's. Además de asumir la supervisión de nuestro actual personal y ministerios de formación en la fe, el enfoque del Padre Steven estará en desarrollar y enseñar un programa nuevo e integral para la formación de la fe de adultos.

P. Steven es de la Costa Este de Florida. Estudió educación musical en la Universidad de Florida Central antes de unirse al seminario de los Legionarios de Cristo en 2000. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 2011. Al año siguiente, comenzó sus estudios de posgrado en el Pontificio Instituto Juan Pablo II para el Matrimonio y la Familia en Washington, DC, donde obtuvo su licenciatura y su doctorado en Sagrada Teología. Más recientemente, se desempeñó como capellán y profesor asistente de teología en la Divine Mercy University en Sterling, VA.
